It was 1803 when little Lucy Callaghan found a gold nugget by the Gold River. As time went by, what started out as the settlement around a goldmine became the thriving city that today welcomes its guests as the greatest glory Far West.

In Sullivan you can admire buildings such as the great City Hall, the impressive Opera House, or the majestic Lucy's Mansion as well as the primitive cabins of the miners, the train Old Station, and even a cemetery where the greatest characters receive their due homage.

Lucy Callaghan's Story

With sunrise on a day like any other in 1803, the Callaghan family set out on a trip to Santa Fe. But the destiny of the youngest Callaghan, Lucy, held something different in store for them. Halfway through their journey, she found some shiny stones by the Gold River: she had struck gold! The Callaghans established themselves in this area and, three years later, founded the Sullivan settlement. The richness of the place soon attracted more gold seekers, as well as fortune-thirsty adventurers. Little by little, the precarious settlement became a prosperous Victorian city whose splendour brightened the whole Far West. Today, the hospitable city of Sullivan still is the perfect stop for the adventurers visiting the area.
