Cheap Gran Canaria Holidays

Often described as a continent in miniature, Gran Canaria packs an amazing range of fantastic attractions into its 600 square miles. From vast sandy beaches to volcanic craters and untouched ancient villages, there is virtually no end of things to see and do on this almost perfectly round island.

Most of the beaches are found on the southern end of the island, where the climate is sunny and dry - and sunbathing and swimming are possible in winter as well as in summer. The resorts of San Agustín and the Playa del Inglés, together with Maspalomas, share the best beach on island - a five mile haven formed by dunes and an oasis of palm trees, an authentic mini-desert by the sea. Puerto Rico and Mogán are two smaller resorts which specialise on water sports. Puerto Rico has a quiet beach offering a wide assortment of activities, including boat trips, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, and parachuting into the sea. The port of Mogán is an attractive enclave of traditional architecture located in a fishing village. Its flower-adorned streets open onto a harbor where hundreds of boats are docked and excellent fresh fish is plentiful.

The interior of the island is blessed with has some of the most fascinating landscapes in the world. Deep ravines radiate out from the centre of the island, and volcanoes (dormant, for the most part…) dot the landscape. Nestling in the steep highlands of the centre are many small unspoilt villages, banana plantations and orchards bursting with tropical fruit.

Despite its array of attractions and the variety of landscape, getting around Gran Canaria is easy - nowhere is more than an hour away by the excellent bus network on the island.
