Cheap Fuerteventura Holidays

Fuerteventura, the most unspoilt of the Canaries, is an island of peace and tranquility. There's nowhere else like it with its mile upon mile of untouched Caribbean like sands, never ending sun, foaming surf and quiet turquoise coves.

Fuerteventura is also a haven for watersports enthusiasts particularly scuba diving, surfing and windsurfing for which it regularly hosts competitions. Of course, Fuerteventura isn't all beaches. Head inland and discover the scattering of traditional villages set amongst impressive volcanic surroundings that are simply wonderful to explore.

The island is on the same latitude as Florida and Mexico and temperatures here rarely fall below 18C or rise above 24C. There are no less than 152 beaches along its coastline - 50 kilometres of fine, white sand and 25 kilometres of black volcanic shingle. The best can be found around Jandia, on the southern tip of the island. Juan Gomez is one of these, with a stretch of golden sand. Close by is the pebbly black volcanic beach of La Pared - black and gold sit side by side, as immediately next to La Pared is the beach of Viejo Rey, a long stretch of golden sand flanked by dunes.

The main town of Fuerteventura , Puerto del Rosario on the western side of the island was once called Puerto de Cabras (goat harbour), and even today it is said that goats outnumber people in this whitewashed town. The old harbour area features some attractive examples of Canarian architecture and the home of exiled poet Miguel de Unamuno, which has been turned into a museum.
